The equestrian world should look at the racing world and its broad use of syndication to get more owners involved to provide a much needed boost to the sport.

The Global Champions League announced a spectacular new team play offs event in 2018 featuring an unprecedented €10 million in prize money. The Czech capital of Prague, one of the world’s most beautiful cities and a UNESCO World Heritage site, will be the magical venue for these new Play Offs, premiering just before Christmas, from Thursday 13th to Sunday 16th December 2018. This will also make it the first indoor event on the Longines Global Champions Tour and Global Champions League calendar, in the dynamic O2 arena. In a rollercoaster of eliminations, upsets and glory, the teams will battle through the quarter final, semi-final and final stages, with the winning team alone taking home €3 million, a historic prize purse for a single event in jumping. Only the top-16 teams from the 2018 season will qualify for a place, the top four teams automatically fast-tracked to the semi finals. Longines Global Champions Tour President Jan Tops said: “Our mission is to continue innovating and growing show jumping towards an ever more healthy and sustainable future like other sports in the modern era. That is what we have been about from the beginning to make sure the sport keeps moving ahead in the interests of riders, fans, owners, sponsors and media. The new League Play Offs will be unique in show jumping and the exciting format will attract more fans and new audiences.”
