Successful breeder Erich Single died unexpectedly in early March at the age of 65. Single was the owner of the 21-year-old La Biosthetique Sam FBW (by Stan de Man xx), who achieved fantastic results with Michael Jung. The gelding became triple Olympic champion and won gold medals at European championships and World Equestrian Games.
Jung said goodbye to his good friend on Facebook today: “Words cannot describe the loss of Erich Single. He was my supporter, sponsor, breeder of great horses and above all a very good friend. We will remember him as a great horseman who always had a smile on his face. I will take care of your horses in the best possible way and make you proud with good results. We will never forget you, Erich.”
Single ran a breeding farm in Haiterbach, in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. He had been friends with the Jung family for over 30 years. Ten years ago he played a key role in ensuring that Michael Jung and Sam could stay together. Single also bred the Hanoverian mare Go for S (by Grey Top), which Jung took over from his girlfriend Faye Füllgraebe last year. The grey Sportsmann S (by Stolzenberg) was also bred by Single, with whom the German top rider achieved good results in jumping.
