Eventer Julia Krajewski wrote history by winning gold

Germany’s Julia Krajewski captured the gold, making her the first female Olympic eventing champion. Tom McEwen (GBR) and Andrew Hoy (AUS) completed the podium.

Australia’s Andrew Hoy set the standard with a clear round; he also won team silver. The 62-year-old legend captured his eighth Olympic medal today. Tom McEwen also stayed double clear and thus secured a podium place.

Julia Krajewski was flawless and burst into tears of happiness as she galloped through the finish line, realizing that the Olympic gold was hers. It was a fairy tale ending for the rider, whose Olympic dream seemed to be falling apart as her top horse Samourai du Thot retired in spring after he had to have an eye removed due to an infection. But her 12-year-old Amande de B’neville more than made up for that, he made her dreams come true.
