The mayors of Vejer and Conil de la Frontera, in Cadiz, have requested the postponement of the Sunshine Tour. This tour started yesterday and has attracted 400 riders from 40 countries, their grooms and 2,000 horses to the area. This while the area is in a critical state due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Manuel Flor, mayor of Vejer, the municipality where the tour takes place, has communicated with the organisers about the situation of the area. Given the refusal of the organisers to stop the tour, Flor went to the Ministry of Health. Although the event is being held at the facilities of Dehesa Montenmedio, Juan Bermúdez, mayor of the neighbouring town of Conil de la Frontera, decided yesterday to support the request. Bermúdez also asked the Ministry of Health to intervene.
While waiting for the Ministry of Health’s response to the mayors’ request, the Ministry of Tourism reported today that it is promoting this competition.
