Olympic champion Mark Todd suspended
Two-time Olympic eventing champion Mark Todd has been suspended by the British Horseracing Authority after a video surfaced showing him hitting a horse with a branch. The 65-year-old New Zealander did this several times during a training session, and the suspension means that Todd is not allowed to compete anymore. Todd won individual gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympics and has since apologised for the incident. “One of the most important things I strive for is to create mutual respect between horse and rider. Todd wrote in a statement that patience and kindness are the best way to get results,” Todd wrote in a statement. However, the footage clearly shows a lack of patience and kindness. “I am disappointed in myself for not adhering to that,” he said.
