Strong selection for Belgium

Jérôme Guery, Gregory Wathelet and Niels Bruynseels will travel to the Olympic Games in Tokyo for Belgium. Bruynseels takes to Tokyo the twelve-year-old Delux by T & L (v. Toulon). Wathelet will count on the 13-year-old Nevados S (by Calvados Z). Guery will take the 15-year-old Quel Homme de Hus (by Quidam de Revel). Yves Vanderhasselt is travelling reserve with the 12-year-old Jeunesse (by Eldorado van de Zeshoek). In case a combination cannot compete, Pieter Devos with the 13-year-old Claire Z (by Clearway) and Olivier Philippaerts with H&M Extra (by Berlin) are also on the reserve list. Guery writes on Instagram: “I am very proud to be part of the Belgian team for the Olympics in Tokyo. My dream to participate in the Olympics came true five years ago in Rio. I will embark on this great adventure this summer with even greater ambitions with Quel Homme de Hus. We have already achieved great things with Quel Homme and we have no intention of stopping there… Tokyo here we come!”

Belgian national coach Peter Weinberg is very pleased with this strong selection. “I have had the opportunity to see the combinations at several beautiful 3*, 4* and 5* competitions in recent months. Especially at the Nations Cups I have observed everyone closely. Especially at these competitions I was able to make the selection myself and see everyone participating in short succession. During the Olympics I will of course have the three selected at the start, but I am keeping in mind that if necessary I can confidently make a change with the number four, Yves Vanderhasselt. He has proven to be in top form this season with, among other things, 4 clear rounds at the CSIO competitions in Rome and La Baule. I think there are currently no stronger combinations than the ones I have selected!”
